Ahoy!
This is a testament to my love of rum, pirates, wenches, and randomness. I could do this all day if only it were profitible. Enjoy. Or don't. Whatever.

Cheers, ya dogs!

Sorry friends. I know it’s been a slow few days, but life-life has required too much of my attention to properly keep things in order here. There will be a return to normal next week.

Rum Review: Oronoco Rum

Posted on May 28th, 2010

Oronoco RumI should begin this review with an apology. In my review of Rogue Spirits White Rum I was a bit hard on white rums and may have implied that they’re lacking in character. While there are a number of white rums that fit this category it isn’t all of them. And while I, and many others, often relegate white rums to the world of mixers there are a few members of the white rum family that I happily admit to enjoying. As soon as I had made the other review I knew I’d slipped up and I’ve been mulling over my opinion of white rums since then. So I figured the best way to make amends is by picking up a bottle of white rum that I know I enjoy.

So here is Oronoco. (more…)

A return to normal.

WhyIsTheRumGone.comIt’s been almost a week since I started rebuilding WhyIsTheRumGone.com. Traffic is pretty decent considering it’s only been up again with any real content for a brief while.

Still getting about 50% bounce rate from google because they don’t pull down old links. And a lot of people are trying to hotlink images that no longer exist (my own fault for letting them in the first place).

But I really know that things are getting back to normal because I woke up this morning to find a ton of spam comments desperately waiting for approval. And, as much as I know you all want to know about growing back your hair or lengthening your penises… I’ve opted to delete them.

But, yes. Hooray for normalcy in blogging.

Pirates off Madagascar. First. Time. Ever. …Really?

Posted on May 26th, 2010

Sailor and Madagascar MaidenAll Headline News put out a short article with the dubious title Spanish Fishing Vessel Escapes First Ever Pirate Attack Off Madagascar.

Apparently ignorant of either the meaning of the word “ever”, or the piratical history of Madagascar, or both, AHN went ahead with their story about a fortunate trawler whose evasive maneuvers allowed it to evade pirate capture. AHN does clarify that “the Tuesday incident marks the first such act by pirates in the Mozambique Channel”.

Perhaps they mean this is in reference to acts “officially” recorded as piracy. Not acts of privateering, or slave-trading raiders. But then… even that would be wrong as there has long been recorded evidence of pirate attacks in the Mozambique Channel. You can read about a brief encounter in the channel that took place in 1720 here, if you like.

I wonder what qualifications one needs in order to write for a newspaper…

Drinkhacker is reviewing The Lash. It’s a rum.

Posted on May 26th, 2010

The LashDrinkhacker put up a review of The Lash spiced rum here. I’ve never heard of it and I don’t even know where their website is or anything about it outside of what the review reveals… But it sounds great and the name makes me giggle a little. Pirate giggle. Not little child or wench giggle. It’s not a teehee… it’s a harharhar kinda giggle… back off or I’ll cut you.

So I’m looking for someone to send me a bottle. Someone. Anyone.

Please?

Seafair Pirates in Canada

Posted on May 26th, 2010

Seafair PiratesFound an article called LOCAL FLAVOUR: Recipe for being a great pirate on BCLocalNews.com about our local Seafair Pirates invading Canada. Looks like they’ll be sailing in the Hyack International Parade this Saturday, May 29th. So anyone in New Westminster should go check it out and report back. I can’t go, sadly. There are… issues… with my ability to cross the border.

But you should check out the article for info about the parade, the pirates, and, yes, even the recipe for a great pirate. Plus this quote from the article in regards to wenching:

“Fair maidens that wouldn’t give you a second look if you were in civvies fall in love with you when you are in pirate gear.”
